Background:

<aside> 📌 Since 2004, Cambodian Children’s Fund (CCF) has worked to create opportunities through education for the most impoverished Cambodian communities, centered around the former garbage dump at Steung Meanchey. At the start, CCF’s revolved around the health and well-being of 45 children living on the garbage dump. Cambodian Children’s Fund partnered with Team4Tech beginning in 2019 to build out a digital design skills curriculum. Students are now using their design skills to get better jobs and prepare for university. And staff are now sharing the curriculum with the Ministry of Education and other schools in Cambodia. Today, there are more than 2,200 students working towards a better future for themselves and their families through CCF’s award-winning education program.

🤝 Partnership Objectives:

For the next five years, CCF views itself as leading content creators for the Cambodian public education system as it shares out its resources with other public schools, creates modules for teacher training, and sits as a central hub for publishing polished educational Khmer content. CCF is looking to create an educational model and curriculum toolkit that can be easily taken up by others (open source dissemination; franchise model).

Grant Budget Analysis:

They purchased tablets for students who are digitally designing a mural for a girls’ community center, animating announcements to address community issues, and filming public health videos shared by the local government during the pandemic. These tablets also gives access to digital skills to more students and replaces costly consumables such as ink and paint. They also invested in new design apps, including Procreate and Affinity Designer, as well as iPads and iPad pencils. CCF also invested in VR.

Team4Tech Impact:

Technology and training support from Team4Tech have supported CCF in building out a digital design curriculum benefiting more than 2,000 CCF students. These resources are now being shared with the Ministry of Education and public schools.
