<aside> 📌 Worldreader is a global nonprofit championing digital reading in underserved communities to create a world where everyone can be a reader. They feature an extensive selection of approximately 35,000 digital books, stories, and teaching materials in 52 languages to use for free. Their easy-to-use mobile app is designed to work on the most basic internet-enabled phone, using minimal data and loading times.

Team4Tech Impact:

Worldreader’s partnership with Team4Tech began with a two-year vision to support Worldreader’s early learning programming by focusing objectives on two interventions: Ghana District Scale and BookSmart.

With the grant funding from Team4Tech, Worldreader has finalized a work plan for the BookSmart Ghana District Scale pilot and was able to procure all devices for the MEO by the end of 2021. This included the procurement of two projectors and 15 tablets with hotspots that will be used to pilot community outreach events and onboard parents and caregivers to the BookSmart Home application as part of the sustainability plan for digital reading programs in Kwaebibirem. In 2022 and 2023, Worldreader strengthened their training capacity, aligning with their goals of enhancing teacher training, streamlining their LMS, and improving digital literacy skills for parents/caregivers through investing in parent training videos and instructional material for the parent package.

Worldreader has participated in 2 projects with Team4Tech and NetApp:

• In the 2020 project with NetApp, Team4Tech volunteers supported their goals through the development of teacher training storyboards, drafting of digital reading program policy documents, and a landscape review of M&E tools for Worldreader to use for field data collection, and pass on to the MEO for future monitoring and evaluation efforts.
  • Worldreader is now able to better support one of the biggest challenges in implementing tech-based educational programs: addressing the beneficiaries’ digital literacy levels.
• The project in 2021 built off of this work to focus on a consolidated package of teacher training resources to support BookSmart capacity building in schools across Worldreader programs and the adoption and testing of the Kobo Toolbox data collection platform identified by the first cohort of volunteers.
  • These efforts resulted in the development of a strong teacher training framework for Worldreader accompanied by a flow chart to indicate different usage scenarios.
  • The M&E groups further provided training documentation and videos for Worldreader to roll out Kobo Toolbox across the organization and even supported field testing of Kobo Collect with the Keep Children Reading, Kenya project.
• Both projects supported two of Worldreader’s long-term goals of enhancing teacher training and streamlining monitoring and evaluation processes.
